Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of using leak detection ?
Finding and fixing a leak as soon as possible will prevent further ongoing damage and stop the accumulation of repair costs.
With my specific skills and insights from over 10 years of specialising in this aspect of the plumbing industry, I will be able to find and fix your leak. I use the most advanced tools and technology to do so.
Is my leak covered by Insurance ?
The damage caused by a leak including the damage caused in exposing it will almost always be covered by your insurance policy - this includes policies which do not have trace and access cover. If you do not have trace and access cover then you will need to pay for the work to find and fix the leak after which your policy should activate - however I strongly recommend establishing your circumstances with the insurance provider before any work commences.
As part of the fee, I will provide a comprehensive report for your insurance company. I have been writing leak detection reports which have been accepted by insurance companies for over ten years.
I am topping up my boiler every day, where is the water going and is it causing terrible damage ?
It can take only a few coffee mug amounts of water to drop a boiler from normal pressure to zero - this depends on the size and design of the system. No leak should be left unattended and even small amounts of water can soak into building materials and generate large repair bills.
Central heating leaks are one of my specialist areas and I can normally find and fix this problem for you in a day getting your heating back up and running.
How long will you take to find and fix my leak ?
It will take me one full or half working day, for example when water is under hard to access floors or running on concrete pads it is difficult for plumbers to track the leak but using the most advanced leak detection tools and technology and using my years of experience I will find a water loss solution in usually one working day.
With small leaks such as a boiler losing pressure over a day or more, and if the leak is concealed in layers of building material - we have to resort to overnight pressure testing or even dividing the system up into zones until you can narrow down the part of the property where the leak is operating - this will be discussed before any work is agreed upon.
I have ‘Rising Damp’ - do i need damp proofing ?
Damp proofing/tanking is an invasive and costly process which can alleviate and mask the effects of damp however it does not diagnose and stop the original source of water. Using technology and experience I can identify the true cause of the problem and recommend actions to stop the damp.
How can i start the process and get my leak fixed ?
